In 1901, the 21 year old William S. Harley had created the model of an engine that was designed to accommodate a bike conventional. Two years later, William together with his friend Arthur Davidson started and developed an engine cylinder that was installed on a conventional bicycle during this period. However, this motorized bicycle was proved to be incapable of climbing through the Milwaukee hills without pedal assistance. Harley Davidson and further develop their motor after that experience.

Immediately, they created a more powerful engine (405 cc or 24.74 cubic inches), which became the first and true Harley-Davidson. Meanwhile, the first Harley-Davidson factory was in a 10 x 15 foot wooden shed. Both friends have been helped by Arthur's older brother, Walter.

After a year, Harley-Davidson has entered its first race motorcycle Milwaukee.

The first years came so quickly to the company, after 3 years, Harley-Davidson motorcycle production was transferred at Chestnut Street (which was later to become Juneau Avenue). It is still the Harley-Davidson headquarters until hour.

In 1907, William received a degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Wisconsin. This has helped the development of Harley-Davidson engines better in the future. The same Year also gave them a much needed expansion factory for motorcycle applications growing. The year 1907 introduced the 45-degree engine V-Twin which is now the only engine of Harley Davidson for a very long time.

Over the years the company has gained such popularity that was converted in sales performance. During the First World War, Harley-Davidson was commissioned to provide over 20,000 units for military use. History the Second World War was the same for now. They have produced thousands and thousands of motorcycle.

Before the coming 70 years, AMF or the American Machinery and Foundry bought Harley-Davidson. Policies have changed which has led to labor strikes and bikes inferior. The popularity and reputation of the business has been severely damaged.

In the 80s, it was sold to an investor group headed by Willie G. Davidson and Vaughn Beals. Innovations such as the planned introduction of the "Sturgis". The costumers began to return and the company had seen clearer promise.

Since the popularity of Harley-Davidson motorcycles was unquestionable. They regained their leadership in the area of the bike, because they create a unique range of motorcycles, different from the classic made in Japan. Now, after more than one hundred years of existence, Harley-Davidson motorcycles have become an attraction in every road around the world.
