How do I move the gear pedal forward on a Kawasaki 550GT?

My brother just bought a 2nd hand Kawasaki 550GT (custom CHOP) and seeks to move the gear pedal down closer to the front of the bike. However, the heat from the engine block could become a problem when riding. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You could fit a shifter gear or more corresponding a set of front end converters and rear brake while you're at it to match things.
