I just got a motorcycle and the law here requires approval by DOT glasses if you're on a driver like me. Does the blade down effect on my face shield half-salad as meeting this requirement, or do I obtain additional protective goggles or glasses?

You got it right. If you have a helmet with a full face shield, it counts as a protection eye. Al long as you keep your face shield down. But here is what I do to get better. I bought a pair of motorcycle goggles a local store. I found these at Wal-Mart for about $ 25. They resemble ordinary sunglasses, but have some differences fingertips. They have foam around the edges so they act like sunglasses. They are polarized to prevent glare. They are photo sensitive, which makes automatically lighten or darken if necessary. It will be very useful later in the day when the sun starts going down. They thinned enough that I no need to save on disposal. They have rubber pads to help make their stay better. I use a helmet with full face mask full shield. However, I wish to raise or partially open face shield when I stopped to take a little extra air. It also facilitates fogging the cold mornings on my commute to work. These glasses give me extra protection so I do not need immediately below the shield when I start moving again. I do not wear these because I do, I wear them because I want to. When I was very young and just starting to ride motorcycles from time to time I would not wear goggles. It was not long and something hit me in the eye. Man did that hurt. He scratched his eyeball. Had to put some cream in my eye and keep it covered for about a week. Fortunately there was no permanent damage. But I never want that to happen ever again.
